Go ahead —
take a breath.

You found the About page. Which probably means you’re doing what most business owners do before they call somebody: checking whether there’s a real human on the other end.

There is. Hi, I’m Craig McIlvain. 👋

If marketing has felt confusing, heavy, or like one more thing on an already-full plate, hear this first: you’re doing better than you think, and you don’t have to figure this out alone.

Craig McIlvain, founder of CraigAds
Ownership

Why my name is in the brand

People ask me why the company is called CraigAds. The answer says a lot about how we do things.

I put my name on it because of one word: ownership. When a client trusts us with their business, somebody should stand behind the work — the results, the relationship, all of it. When things go well, the credit belongs to the team. When something misses, I look in the mirror first, figure out what we learned, and make it right.

That’s not pressure. That’s freedom — for you. You never have to wonder who’s accountable.

The Story

The best worst timing ever

“Craig, whatever you do, don’t start a business while having kids and buying a house.”

Most people would call that terrible timing. I’ve come to see it differently — I believe things happen in the right season, even when the season looks messy from the inside. Starting CraigAds in the middle of life’s fullest chapter taught me exactly what the owners I serve are living every day.

I work hard, and I have faith. Those two things carried me then and they carry me now — and they shaped what CraigAds became: a company built by someone who understands the juggle, for people who are juggling.

Before all that, I studied Psychology at USC because I was fascinated by how people make decisions. The lesson that stuck: people don’t decide based on information — they decide based on how something makes them feel. Marketing was never about algorithms to me. It’s about people.

2,000+local businesses served across my career — and the reason CraigAds exists is that most of them deserved better service than the agencies gave them.
Our Mantra

Choose Collaboration

Our monthly calls don’t start with a dashboard. They start with a question: how did the month actually feel?

  •   Did the leads turn into real jobs?
  •   Was your schedule full?
  •   Did cash flow feel healthy?
  •   Did your team feel stretched?

Then we look at the numbers — together. You can rank #1 on Google and still feel uneasy, and no report will ever explain why. You will. You’re the most important data point in the room.

Our best client relationships don’t feel like “agency and customer” at all. They feel like an extension of each other’s team, cheering for each other. That’s collaboration — and honestly, it’s the fun way to work.

The Team

People doing what they're best at

CraigAds started as just me — the salesperson, the strategist, the follow-up guy, the guy answering emails at 10:30 at night. That worked, for a season. But the goal was never to build “Craig doing marketing.” It was to build a team and a culture clients can trust.

My leadership philosophy, and I mean every word: my job is to bring out the best in everyone. I look for what each person is naturally great at, then hand them room to run. Creativity isn’t something I manage here — it’s something I cultivate. When people work from their strengths, they light up. And when your team lights up, your clients feel it.

Faith is a big part of how I lead. People matter more than metrics — my team, my clients, and their families are the real value this business creates. We build companies so we can build lives.

And when I clock out? I’m a husband to Julia, a dad to Claire and Alexander, and the guy Navi — our chihuahua-Pomeranian — expects a walk from. That’s the life the business exists to serve, not the other way around.

The Creative Side

The fun is not optional

I’m a musician. I play guitar, I compose electronic dance music, and there’s a synthesizer within arm’s reach more often than not. The music side of me and the marketing side of me are the same guy — both are about rhythm, feel, and knowing the technical stuff only matters if it moves somebody.

We take your business seriously. Ourselves? Just seriously enough.

Yes, I’m a goofball underneath the alligator.

Be you, not them.

The music never stopped.

Always have fun.

You can exhale now.

Somewhere out there is a marketing partner who will listen before talking, encourage you instead of confusing you, stand behind the work with his name on the door — and maybe, just maybe, show up in an alligator mask.

You’ve been carrying a lot. Let us carry this part.
